Benefits of Calohea project
WHAT IS CALOHEA?
The CALOHEA (Measuring and comparing Achievements of Learning Outcomes in Higher Education in Asia) is aimed at contributing to the internationalization of higher education institutions in South-East Asia through developing a series of interrelated measures in three Key Recognition Mechanisms.
WHAT BENEFITS DOES IT BRING?
With the three recognition mechanisms as a result of CALOHEA project, the potential benefits can offered to HE institutions, students, faculty, and non-academic staff of HEIs, as shown in the chart below.
WHAT HAVE OUR NLU-CALOHEA TEAM DONE AND WILL DO WITH THE CALOHEA RESULTS?
Collaborating with the other teams of CALOHEA Project, we contributed to the development of the three Recognition Mechanisms and brought about some first benefits at different levels.
1. Faculty level:
o Introduced the results to all the academics of our Faculty of Foreign Languages and Technical Education.
o Designed and included authentic assessments in selected courses of the program.
o Conducted research on authentic assessments and workload measurement and gained positive feedback from the student participants.
o Matched the CALOHEA teacher education reference framework with the Faculty’s English Program PLOs to identify the similarities and differences.
2. Institution Level
o Held workshops sharing CALOHEA results and recommending its applications.
o Posted the CALOHEA results and shared them on the website.
3. Beyond – Institution Level:
o Joined national meetings and shared our research results on Teacher education qualifications Reference framework, student workload and authentic tasks, at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia, San Agustin University in the Philippines, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of HCM City and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering in Vietnam.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
o We are going to discuss and improve our PLOs based on the CALOHEA framework, our National Qualifications Frameworks and Subject-Specific Reference, stakeholders’ feedback, and our faculty’s experience.
o More discussions will be held to install the culture of measuring student workload, thereby ensuring reasonable assignment of student workload and qualified achievement of learning outcomes.
o We will hold more faculty and institution workshops sharing CALOHEA results and recommending its applications.
o We also plan to join other international workshops to disseminate the CALOHEA results.
CONCLUSION
With the CALOHEA results, our faculty program and other institutions would have significant measures to prepare for prospective degree internationalization and facilitate student mobility.
